CHITTAGONG UNIVERSITY, June 11, 2026 (BSS) - The Institute of Forestry and
Environmental Sciences (IFESCU) of Chittagong University (CU) won the
"National Environment Award 2025" in recognition of its outstanding
contributions to environmental education and awareness.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change announced the award
through an official gazette notification issued on June 7 last.

According to the National Environment Award Policy, the institute was
selected in the 'Environmental Education and Awareness' category under the
institutional level.

The award is being viewed as recognition of the institute's long-standing
contributions to environmental science education, forestry education,
research and the promotion of environmental awareness across the country.

The gazette stated that recipients of the award will receive a two-tola [22-
carat] gold medal, a crest, a certificate, and a cheque worth Taka 50,000.

Director of the Institute Professor Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain said,
"Receiving this award is a great honour for both CU and the Institute.

The award recognizes our long-standing contributions to environmental
education, research and awareness. It also inspires us to work even harder to
promote environmental conservation and strengthen public awareness on
environmental issues across the country."

The Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences has been conducting
academic and research activities in forestry and environmental science at
undergraduate, postgraduate, MPhil and PhD levels for many years. This year
marks the 50th anniversary of its forestry education programme and the 25th
anniversary of its environmental science education programme.

Beyond education and research, the institute played a significant role in
environmental conservation on CU campus. Through its afforestation programme,
which has been running since 1983, nearly 600 acres of land have been
transformed into a rich green environment.

The institute has also established the country's first experimental and the
educational Miyawaki Forest with the participation of students.
