DHAKA, May 17, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury today said the Bangladesh Film Archive is playing a significant role in preserving films and the history of Bangladesh.
Describing films as a reflection of a nation’s culture, history and social life, he said the activities of the Bangladesh Film Archive would be further modernised and updated to preserve the country's audiovisual resources.
Yasser made the remarks while speaking as a special guest at an event organised to mark the 48th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Film Archive.
The state minister said the incumbent government is committed to preserving culture and heritage and is providing necessary support for film preservation, digitisation and the expansion of research-based activities.
Yasser urged the Bangladesh Film Archive authorities to play a more active role in properly presenting Bangladesh’s film history and culture to future generations.
Chaired by Bangladesh Film Archive Director General M Javed Iqbal, the meeting was attended, among others, by Information and Broadcasting Ministry Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr Zahed Ur Rahman, Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana, senior ministry officials, filmmakers, artists, researchers, journalists and cultural workers.
Marking the occasion, the Bangladesh Film Archive organised a discussion, painting competition and cultural programme in the capital.
