PM launches family card programme for women empowerment: Yasser

MYMENSINGH, May 17, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury has said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has launched the family card distribution scheme to empower women of the country. 

“Giving family cards to low-income families was one of the election pledges of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman,” the state minister said while speaking as the chief guest at a meeting in Nandail, Mymensingh on Saturday evening.

The meeting was arranged at Charvelamari Government Primary School under Charbetagar Union to distribute family cards among poor families.

Yasser Khan said as part of women empowerment, family cards were launched in this area and every beneficiary will receive a certain amount of money through this card every month. 

“This initiative will play a positive role in achieving economic self-reliance of families. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has launched this programme to financially strengthen female-headed families,” he said.

No political beliefs, religion and caste were considered in the distribution of these family cards, he said, adding the government has first taken one ward of each union in the country for the scheme. 

In phases, these cards will be distributed to all unions sequentially, he said.

On behalf of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Yasser Khan Choudhury distributed the family cards there.

Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner Md Saifur Rahman, Nandail Upazila Nirbahi Officer Fatema Jannat, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Salah Uddin Mahmud, Officer-in-Charge of Nandail Model Police Station Azharul Islam and local BNP leaders were present.
