2 more children die with measles-like symptoms in last 24 hrs

DHAKA, May 16, 2026 (BSS) - Two more children died with measles-like symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The figures were disclosed in a press release issued by the DGHS control room.

According to the release, 961 suspected measles patients were reported during the last 24 hours, raising the total number of suspected cases to 56,572 from March 15 to May 16.

Of the 961 suspected cases reported in the last 24 hours, 472 were from Dhaka Division, 37 from Rajshahi Division, 167 from Chattogram Division, 129 from Barishal Division, 44 from Mymensingh Division, 55 from Sylhet Division, 55 from Khulna Division and 2 from Rangpur Division.

During the same period, 108 confirmed measles cases were recorded, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 7,524 since March 15.

From March 15 to May 16, a total of 41,028 suspected measles patients were admitted to hospitals.

During the same period, 36,645 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals.

So far, 74 people have died from confirmed measles, while the total number of deaths from suspected measles, including the two reported in the last 24 hours, has risen to 389.

Dhaka Division recorded the highest number of suspected measles cases so far, with 25,491 people affected.

Of them, 5,215 were confirmed as measles cases.
