DHAKA, May 13, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister's Adviser and Spokesperson at the Prime Minister's Office Mahdi Amin today said the current government has started rapidly implementing the promises made in its election manifesto within three months of assuming office.
He said, "Under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, creating sustainable employment opportunities for the country's vast number of youths and women is one of the current government's top priorities."
He made the remarks as the chief guest at a discussion titled "Tree Plantation in Environmental Conservation and Sustainable Development: The Role of NGOs" held at the NGO Affairs Bureau auditorium in Agargaon.
Mahdi Amin said, "Currently, there is a disconnect between education and employment in our country. We want to build a holistic ecosystem where skills and technical competence form the foundation of education. Not everyone needs to pursue a bachelor's or master's degree; rather, we aim to establish industry-academia collaboration through technical and vocational education."
He further said the main purpose of education should be to help individuals become responsible citizens and ensure practical application of knowledge, rather than merely obtaining certificates.
Referring to the government's completion of three months in office, the spokesperson said, "The burden of people's huge expectations rests on our shoulders. We want to restore the transparency, accountability, freedom of speech, and rule of law that were absent over the past 18 years."
He said, "People will have the right to offer constructive criticism. Embracing ideological differences, we aim to build a united Bangladesh on matters of national interest and sovereignty."
He informed that initiatives such as the Farmer Card, Family Card, honorariums for imams and muezzins, and agricultural loans have already been launched as pilot projects and will be gradually expanded across the country.
Praising the contribution of NGOs in enhancing Bangladesh's image globally, Mahdi Amin said, "NGOs have played a historic role in environmental conservation, health, and education. The government does not want to implement policies in isolation. We aim to strengthen NGOs as implementation partners. Your opinions and expertise will play a vital role in shaping government policy."
Senior officials of the NGO Affairs Bureau and representatives of various NGOs were present at the event.
