NETROKONA, May 13, 2026 (BSS)– Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal said that the government is implementing various railway expansion projects on a priority basis to bring remote regions of the country under a modern communication network.
“Once the railway expansion projects are completed, the long-standing expectations of people living in border and remote areas will be fulfilled,” he said.
The deputy speaker made these remarks during an on-site inspection and a discussion meeting with local dignitaries regarding the proposed extension of the railway line from Jaria Jhanjail Railway Station to Durgapur in Purbadhala upazila of Netrokona district, said a press release.
He said the government is making its strides to deliver the benefits of development to people’s doorsteps.
Kamal said extending the railway line from Jaria Jhanjail to Durgapur is a timely and highly important initiative for the development of tourism, trade and commerce, agriculture, and the local economy of the Durgapur region in Netrokona.
Noting that Jhanjail station is a 108-year-old one, he said but it seems that development stopped at the point where it was 108 years ago.
He hoped this long-standing stagnation will come to an end with the efforts of the government.
During the visit, State Minister for Railways Habibur Rashid said the deputy speaker, a son of this soil, has been playing an important role in the area’s development.
Kamal has taken the initiative to extend the railway line from Jaria Station to Durgapur and is working toward its implementation, he said.
Feasibility studies and land acquisition work are currently underway for the expansion project.
Officials concerned and local leaders of business community, BNP and its associate bodies were present.
