Fakhrul mourns death of theatre personality Ataur Rahman

DHAKA, May 13, 2026 (BSS) - Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of eminent theatre personality Ataur Rahman.

In a message of condolence, the minister said, “With the departure of a bright star of Bangladesh’s cultural arena, the country lost an extraordinary talented personality. Ataur Rahman, popularly known as ‘Monchosarathi’, enriched the country’s cultural sphere throughout his life through theatre practice, stage direction and acting. The nation will remember his creative works and outstanding contributions with deep respect forever.” 

Describing his demise as an irreparable loss to the country’s cultural arena, he said Ataur Rahman’s contribution to the development of Bangladesh’s stage drama and in nurturing new generation artistes is undeniable.

Mirza Fakhrul, also BNP secretary general, prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
 
After remaining on life support for 10 days, Ataur Rahman passed away late Monday night. 

He was 84.
