DHAKA, May 12, 2026 (BSS) - The High Court (HC) today directed the railway
authorities to allocate special coaches for women on every passenger train
during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha journey.
A High Court division bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Md Ashif
Hasan passed the order after holding a hearing on a writ petition filed in
this connection.
Advocate Md Ajmal Hossain Khokon, who moved the plea before the court, said
that although the Railway Act contains provisions for reserving special
coaches for women, those provisions have not been implemented in practice.
"Following a writ petition filed in 2021 seeking implementation of the
provision, the High Court had issued a rule, which is still pending. As Eid-
ul-Azha is approaching, an application was filed seeking directives for
reserving special coaches for women. After hearing the plea, the court issued
the order today," he told newsmen.
