CHITTAGONG UNIVERSITY, May 7, 2026 (BSS) - CHITTAGONG UNIVERSITY, May 7, 2026 (BSS) - Chittagong University (CU) has achieved remarkable success in the Inter-University Athletics Championship 2026 by securing four gold, 10 silver and eight bronze medals.
The competition was held from May 4 to 6 at the Islamic University (IU) campus in Kushtia.
Competing against 51 universities, CU won 22 medals and earned joint first runners-up in the men's category and joint second runners-up in the women's category.
In the men's division, Chittagong University became joint 1st runners-up alongside Jashore University of Science and Technology with 43 points. Outstanding performances came from Zakir Hossain, Hirak Roy, Fahad, Ruman Joy, Ariful Islam, Rony Hasan, and Mostak Ahmed.
Zakir Hossain won a gold medal in the 10,000-meter race, along with silver medals in the 5,000-meter and 1,500-meter races. Hirak Roy secured gold in the 400-meter hurdles, silver in the high jump, and bronze in the 400-meter sprint.
Moreover, Fahad won silver in javelin throw, Ruman Joy earned silver in triple jump and bronze in the 110-meter hurdles, Ariful Islam secured silver in the 800-meter race, Rony Hasan won silver in shot put, and Mostak Ahmed claimed bronze in the 800-meter race.
In team events, the CU men's team won silver in the 4x400-meter relay and bronze in the 4x100-meter relay.
In the women's category, Chittagong University became joint 2nd runners-up alongside Jashore University of Science and Technology with 24 points. Tamanna Mahbub Prity, Israt Jahan Ipti, and Mim contributed significantly to the team's success.
Tamanna Mahbub Priti won gold in the 100-meter hurdles, silver medals in discus throw and shot put, and bronze in the 100-meter sprint. Israt Jahan Ipti secured gold in the high jump, while Mim won bronze in the 400-meter race.
The women's team also achieved success in the relay events, winning bronze medals in both the 4x400-meter and 4x100-meter relays.
Mohammad Shawon, Chittagong University Central Students' Union (CUCSU) Sports and Athletics Secretary, said, "Both the male and female athletes of CU achieved notable success in this year's competition. Regular training and preparation will continue, InshaAllah, with the aim of performing even better in the future."
Rajshahi University became champions in the men's category, while Dhaka University secured the championship in the women's category at the Inter-University Athletics Championship 2026.
The CU men's team finished second, while the women's team finished third overall, demonstrating their capabilities. Besides, Tamanna Mahbub Priti secured second place individually by earning 12 points.
