DU chalks out events to mark Tagore's 165th birth anniv

DHAKA, May 6, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka University (DU) authorities have chalked out a series of programs to celebrate the 165th birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate Poet Rabindranath Tagore.

To mark the day, a discussion and essay presentation session will be held at 11:00 am on Friday at the Student-Teacher Centre (TSC) auditorium.

DU Vice Chancellor Prof A B M Obaidul Islam will preside over the function.

This year, the birth anniversary is being observed with the theme 'Tagore: The Poet of Peace and Humanity.'

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof. Sayema Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Abdus Salam and Treasurer Prof. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury will attend the event.

Prof. Serajul Islam (Seraj Salekeen), Chairman of the university's Bengali Department, will deliver the memorial lecture. 

The formal discussion will be followed by a cultural program, organized jointly by the DU Music Department and the Dance Department, featuring Tagore's songs and dance recitals.
