JUJA hosts charge handover ceremony

Jahangirnagar University, May 4, 2026 (BSS) - The Jahangirnagar University Journalists’ Association (JUJA) today hosted its charge handover and farewell ceremony 2026 at the Senate Hall of Jahangirnagar University.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon attended the programme as the chief guest.

He said, “Journalism must serve the people and uphold truth,” adding that an independent media is the primary means of ensuring transparency and accountability.

The minister underscored the importance of a free and responsible media in ensuring accountability in a democratic system.

He also urged young journalists to remain committed to professional ethics and values.

Speaking as the guest of honour, JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan said,  “Journalists should work to bring comfort to those in distress and create accountability for those who unjustly enjoy privileges.” 

He emphasized the importance of constructive criticism, urging journalists to distinguish it from defamation.

Among others, Pro-VC (Academic) Professor Dr. M Mahfuzur Rahman, Pro-VC (Administration) Professor Dr. Sohel Ahmed and Treasurer Professor Dr. M Abdur Rab were present at the event as special guests.

Outgoing JUJA President Mehedi Mamun presided over the programme, while outgoing General Secretary Abdullah Al Mamun and newly elected General Secretary Razib Rayhan conducted it. Newly elected President Mah Alam delivered the closing remarks.

Teachers, students and leaders from various political and cultural students’ bodies were present at the programme.
