KHULNA, May 1, 2026 (BSS) - Ibrahim Khalil of daily Amar Desh has been elected president and Nahid Hasan of daily Jugantor as general secretary of the Khulna University Journalists' Association (KHUJA) for 2026.

The results of the election to the 11-member executive committee were announced on Thursday afternoon at the association office at the Professor Dr Golam Rahman Administrative Building on the university campus.

Chief Election Commissioner Professor Dr Md Ashikur Rahman announced the results after completion of voting held in a festive atmosphere earlier in the day.

Other elected office-bearers are Sanjida Akter as vice-president, Fahad Khandakar as joint secretary, Abid Hasan as organising secretary, Zahida Sultana Rima as finance secretary, Mahmud Sheikh as office secretary and Md Maruf Ahmed as publicity and publication secretary.

The elected executive members are Yusuf Sadik, Mehedi Hasan and Sohan Sakib.

Former and current members of the association were present during the announcement of the results.

The newly elected leaders sought cooperation from all concerned to uphold the standard of journalism and ensure objective reporting at the university.

Assistant Professor Majidul Islam of the Mass Communication and Journalism Discipline and Associate Professor Dr Md Tarek Bin Salam of the Soil, Water and Environment Discipline served as assistant election commissioners.
