DINAJPUR, April 30, 2026 (BSS) - For the first time in Dinajpur, a Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) device has been successfully implanted in a patient's heart at Zia Heart Foundation Hospital.
General Secretary of the foundation AKM Azad confirmed the information to BSS today.
He said around 2:00 pm, senior consultant cardiologist Dr Md Mesbahul Islam successfully implanted the CRT device in the patient at the hospital.
He added that by implanting the device in the heart of 68-year-old Md Jamal Uddin from Dhamurihat area of Naogaon district, the Zia Heart Foundation has achieved a milestone in cardiac care services in the northern region.
Dr Md Mesbahul Islam said that Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) is a specialised device-based treatment used in selected patients with heart failure and reduced cardiac synchrony.
The device helps improve coordination between the heart's lower chambers (ventricles) and enhances cardiac efficiency.
Successfully implanting this device is a highly significant cardiac procedure, performed through an interventional cardiology process by connecting the device to the heart, he added.
Dr Md Mesbahul Islam added that the CRT device improves the heart's pumping capacity, reduces shortness of breath, fatigue, and palpitations, and enhances the patient's quality of life, enabling them to return to normal living.
Md. Jamal Uddin said that after the implantation of the CRT device, his symptoms such as breathing difficulty, fatigue, and heart palpitations have significantly decreased, and he is now feeling much better.
