RAJSHAHI, April 29, 2026 (BSS)- Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) Professor Dr. S. M. Abdur Razzak has said utmost emphasis should be given on research and the use of renewable energy to lessen the gradually mounting pressure on fossil fuel.
“If we want to advance toward technological development, we must conduct research on electricity and energy. Through research, we must find alternative sources of energy and ensure electricity and energy security for national development by utilizing them,” he added.
He made these remarks today while speaking as the chief guest at the prize-giving ceremony of the competition titled “PSREF Industrial Energy Challenge: Designing a Green Transition.”
The day-long competition was jointly organized by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), Institute of Energy and Environmental Studies (IEES), and RUET at RUET’s seminar room.
The event was presided over by IEES Director and Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Professor Dr. Nurul Islam.
RUET VC Prof Razzak said energy is the main driving force. There are several indicators to measure a country’s real development.
Among them, per capita consumption of electricity is one of the most important. Countries that are advanced in technology, education, and research have comparatively higher per capita consumption of electricity.
In the competition, 8 teams from various engineering universities presented their innovative projects related to the use of renewable energy (green energy).
Team Ever Fresh won the championship award. In addition, Team Opochoy-Zero became the first runner-up and Team Greenery Grid won the second runner-up prize.
Also present at the event were Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering Professor Dr. Md. Kamruzzaman, Director of Student Welfare Professor Dr. Md. Robiul Islam Sarker, CPD Research Associate Md. Mehedi Hasan Shamim, along with RUET teachers, students, and representatives of the organizers.
