KHULNA, April 27, 2026 (BSS) - Vice-Chancellor of the Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Professor Dr. Muhammad Masud, on Monday said that fire safety is not merely a formal training issue; rather, it is an essential part of everyday awareness, responsibility and preparedness.
He emphasized that ensuring the safety of students, teachers, officers and employees in an educational institution is both a moral and institutional obligation.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at a day-long fire safety training programme held at KUET under the initiative of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).
IQAC Director Professor Dr. A.B.M. Awlad Hossain presided over the programme, while IQAC Deputy Director Professor Dr. Md. Rizvi Kaisar conducted the event.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that such training programmes not only provide theoretical knowledge but also help participants gain practical skills to respond quickly and effectively during emergencies.
"Many accidents can be prevented through prior awareness and proper preparation," he added, urging everyone to remain vigilant about fire hazards, follow safety regulations and become skilled in using firefighting equipment.
Calling upon the participants to apply the knowledge gained from the training in real life, the Vice-Chancellor said a safe, awareness and accident-free campus can be built if everyone acts responsibly from their respective positions.
He also appreciated IQAC for organizing such a timely initiative and stressed the need for continuing similar programmes in the future.
A total of 40 teachers from different departments of the university participated in the training programme.
