RAJSHAHI, April 26, 2026 (BSS) - World Intellectual Property Day 2026 was observed at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) through various awareness programs today. 

To mark the day, a colorful rally was organized on the RUET campus. The rally began in front of the administrative building and circled the main road of the campus.

The main theme of World Intellectual Property Day this year is "IP and Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate." 

This theme explores how intellectual property (patents, trademarks, designs, and copyrights) fuels innovation, technological advancements, and creative branding within the global sports industry.
 
Led by Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Nurul Islam and conducted by Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) Director Professor Dr. Imdadul Haque, the event was also attended by Director of Student Welfare Professor Dr. Rabiul Islam Sarker and Director of Planning and Development Professor Dr. H. M. Rasel.

IQAC Additional Director Professor Dr. Md. Mahmud Sazzad, Acting Registrar Arif Ahammad Chowdhury were also present along with various faculty deans, directors, department heads, office and section heads, teachers, students, officials, and staff.
 
The day is observed to raise public awareness about how patents, trademarks, and copyrights affect people's lives and how the work of creative individuals and scientists contributes to the development of society. 

In October 1999, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) decided to observe Intellectual Property Day at the United Nations General Assembly. 

To increase public awareness of intellectual property, the World Intellectual Property Organization was established on April 26, 1970. 

For that reason, April 26 was designated as the day of observance.
 
RUET IQAC Director Professor Dr. Imdadul Haque stated that RUET organizes various programs on this day every year to raise awareness among teachers, students, and researchers on the relevant subject. 

The importance of intellectual property is highlighted to raise awareness about the protection of intellectual property rights. 

RUET has been observing this day in line with World Intellectual Property Day.
