Cultural minister inaugurates canal re-excavation in Boalmari

FARIDPUR, April 24, 2026 (BSS) - Cultural affairs minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury today inaugurated a canal re-excavation programme in Boalmari Upazila as part of a nationwide canal restoration initiative.

The minister inaugurated the project at Gunbaha union, covering the stretch from the Madhumati River to the Chand and Kamargram sluice gate area in Nodia.

Addressing the inauguration event as chief guest, the minister noted the benefits of the project, saying, "Re-excavation of canals would ensure free irrigation water for farmers."

He added that the government is planning to supply fertilizers and agricultural inputs at affordable prices to ensure sustainable development in the agricultural sector

The project, being implemented by the Department of Disaster Management under the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, is expected to bring significant improvements in local agricultural production, alleviate waterlogging and maintain environmental balance.

Advocate Sirajul Islam presided over the inauguration event. 

Former MP Khandaker Nasirul Islam and Boalmari Upazila BNP General Secretary Sanjay Kumar Saha, along with local union chairmen and leaders of BNP and its associate bodies were present, among others, during the inauguration.
