DHAKA, April 21, 2026 (BSS) - The BNP delegation, currently visiting China at the invitation of the Communist Party of China (CPC), today held meetings with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and CPC International Department Head Liu Haixing.

BNP Secretary General and LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir led the Bangladesh delegation. The meetings took place at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing and IDCPC building respectively, BNP Media Cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan told BSS.

Both sides described the discussions as constructive, focusing on strengthening Bangladesh-China relations and expanding cooperation across areas of mutual interest. They expressed optimism about elevating longstanding ties -- first initiated under Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and later advanced by Khaleda Zia -- to new heights.

The talks highlighted the importance of the existing "Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership," noting it reflects deep trust and broad-based collaboration. The two sides also agreed to work toward a memorandum of understanding between the CPC and BNP to promote institutional dialogue and regular exchanges.

Fakhrul said Bangladesh's foreign policy is guided by national interests, sovereignty and public welfare under a "Bangladesh First" approach. He reaffirmed Bangladesh's commitment to the One-China policy and underscored the importance of continued high-level engagement.

Fakhrul stressed the need for China's continued support in resolving the Rohingya crisis, particularly in ensuring safe, voluntary and dignified repatriation.

He also highlighted China's potential role in the Teesta River management project, which is crucial for northern Bangladesh.

He also noted that enhancing Chinese language education and cultural exchange would further strengthen understanding and economic engagement between the people of the two countries.

The BNP leader outlined several priority areas for future cooperation, including renewable energy, electric vehicles, industrial development, public health, and advanced medical technologies.

He also expressed interest in expanding collaboration in education, technical training, and governance-particularly in urban management, water purification, and rural development.

Referring to the proposed Bangladesh-China Friendship Hospital in Bangladesh, Fakhrul said cooperation in robotic surgery and modern medical technology, vaccination programmes and continued Chinese support for improving public health systems are expected.

He also expressed hope for establishing technical training institutes in Bangladesh with Chinese cooperation and increasing training opportunities for government officials and political workers.

Both the Vice President of China and the Head of the International Department of the CPC referred to Bangladesh as an important neighbor and partner, and expressed their resolve to further deepen relations based on mutual respect, trust, and cooperation.

They assured continued cooperation with Bangladesh in various fields and emphasised joint progress through mutual exchange of experiences.
