BHOLA, April 16, 2026 (BSS) – Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, today said the constitution cannot be changed unilaterally by any individual or group as only elected representatives of the people have the authority to do so.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists in Bhola during a three-day official visit to his home district.

The Speaker said any constitutional amendment, including the implementation of the “July Charter,” must follow due constitutional procedures.

He stressed that elected representatives alone are empowered to determine the country’s future and amend the constitution.

Referring to the interim government, he said it had introduced some “unusual rules” that have created complications, adding that constitutional changes cannot be made through individual initiative.

On the July Charter, he urged all sides to work together for consensus and effective implementation of the charter.

He also described Bangladesh’s politics as complex but said the people are patriotic and called for a national unity and progress.

Earlier, he was welcomed by BNP leaders at Veduria ferry ghat and later accorded a guard of honour at Bhola Circuit House.
