MOULVIBAZAR, April 14, 2026 (BSS) - The government has undertaken initiatives to transform Juri upazila into a modern agricultural hub to boost production and expand market access, Labour and Employment and Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury said today.

He was addressing a farmers' card distribution programme as the chief guest at Phultala Bashir Ullah High School ground in Juri upazila, organised by the district administration and the Department of Agricultural Extension.

The minister said the soil in Juri is highly fertile, offering strong potential for crops such as gourd, watermelon, lemon and banana.

He said farmers would be provided with necessary support, including soil testing and guidance on suitable crops, along with subsidies if required.

He also announced plans to establish a "Krishoker Hat" in Juri, which could emerge as a major marketing hub for agricultural produce in Sylhet division, ensuring fair prices for farmers.

Highlighting global demand for skilled agricultural workers, he said a modern training centre will be set up in Juri, offering agricultural training alongside language courses for overseas employment.

Local administration officials, public representatives, farmers and media personnel were present.
