Asaduzzaman for elevating legal profession’s standards to ensure justice for litigants

DHAKA, April 13, 2026 (BSS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman today said the government aims to raise the standard of the legal profession, stressing that only competent lawyers can effectively serve the country.Asaduzzaman  for elevating legal profession’s standards to ensure justice for litigants 

“We want lawyers who can contribute to country’s legal profession,” he said while addressing convocation and introduction ceremony of the internship programme of the Attorney General’s office and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as the chief guest today.

Presided over by Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal, the function was also addressed among others by UNDP Bangladesh Resident Representative Stefan Liller, Supreme Court Bar Association President Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Swedish Ambassador Nicolas Weeks, 

The Law Minister also said efforts are being made to change the perception that anyone without proper aim and direction chooses the legal profession.

“We want to move away from the idea that those who have no other options pursue law. We want to enhance the quality and standard of this profession,” he added.
The Law Minister said the government wants lawyers who can contribute to Bangladesh’s development. He also emphasized the need to make the Bar Council examination more modern and relevant. He expressed hope that the next generation would be able to take the country forward within a constitutional framework through their knowledge, wisdom, talent, integrity and courage.

Md Asaduzzaman said he has interacted  with the Prime Minister the possibility of assigning one intern from different universities to Members of Parliament (MPs) to assist them in research work.

Attorney General Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal, in his presidential remarks, said the programme is a clear example of what can be achieved when national institutions and international organizations work together for the advancement of justice and legal excellence.

“Honesty, fairness and respect for the court form the foundation of a lawyer’s credibility. The strength of a country’s justice system depends not only on its institutions but also on the character and competence of those who work within it,” he said.

The Attorney General expressed hope that the next generation would carry forward the ideals of constitutionalism, the rule of law and justice.

At today’s programme, certificates were awarded to 25 students from various universities who completed the first batch of the internship programme, while students of the new batch were administered the oath.
