DHAKA, April 13, 2026 (BSS) – Dhaka today sought enhanced cooperation with Algeria in the energy sector to ensure long-term energy security, while appreciating Algiers’ interest in expanding collaboration in hydrocarbons.
The issue was discussed when Algerian Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdelouahab Saidani paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at the foreign ministry here, according to a ministry press release.
The meeting reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and growing bilateral relations between the two countries.
Both sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in trade and investment, particularly in energy, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding and manpower sectors.
The state minister highlighted the importance of enhanced collaboration in education and welcomed progress towards establishing a Joint Consultative Commission.
The ambassador reiterated Algeria’s commitment to expanding cooperation across key sectors, including energy, education, agriculture and recruitment of skilled and semi-skilled manpower.
The state minister also emphasised boosting people-to-people contacts through cultural and sports exchanges, alongside exploring a mutual visa waiver arrangement.
She stressed the need for regular bilateral engagements and high-level visits to further deepen ties between the two countries.
The ambassador reaffirmed Algeria’s strong commitment to strengthening the longstanding brotherly relations with Bangladesh.
