CHATTOGRAM, April 09, 2026 (BSS) - Five ships carrying Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) are set to arrive in the country by April 15.
Chattogram Port Authority Secretary Refayet Hamim confirmed the arrival schedule of the ships today.
A vessel, 'Morning Jelly', will bring 2,470 tonnes of LPG from Malaysia to Chattogram on April 10. The 'EMEI' will arrive with 69,000 tonnes of LNG from the US at the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) in Maheshkhali on the same day. The 'Kongtong' will follow with a similar cargo on April 11. The 'Paul' will deliver LPG from Malaysia to Chattogram on April 13. Lastly, the 'Maran Gas Hydra' will bring 64,678 tons of LNG from Australia on April 15.
Recently, a fuel tanker, 'MT Central Star', carrying 26,000 tons of Octane from Malaysia arrived at the Chattogram Port. It anchored at Dolphin Jetty in Patenga and began the unloading process. Another tanker named 'Eastern Queens' carrying high sulfur fuel oil from Malaysia also reached the port.
In April, significant amounts of LNG arrived in Bangladesh from the United States and Nigeria, easing the pressure on fuel supply.
Refayet Hamim emphasized the need to give priority to fuel-carrying vessels at the port to maintain a steady fuel supply.
The state-run Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Limited (RPGCL) reported that nine LNG ships are scheduled to arrive this month, with two already in the process of unloading. Each ship typically carries 69,000 to 70,000 tons of gas.
In March, Bangladesh imported around 600,000 tons of LNG from various countries in eight ships, according to RPGCL officials.
