JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, April 7, 2026 (BSS) - Jahangirnagar University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan today said healthcare services must be made more humane and science-based by avoiding commercial attitudes, stressing that a sound body is the foundation of a sound mind.
He made the remarks while inaugurating the day-long programmes marking World Health Day-2026, organised by the Public Health Forum of Public Health and Informatics Department on the campus.
The VC inaugurated the programmes by flagging off a rally at around 11:00 am on the department premises.
Speaking on the occasion, JU VC said the university administration is giving special importance to ensuring the physical and mental well-being of students, teachers and other stakeholders.
He also called upon the department to take a leading role in promoting public health research and raising awareness both on campus and across the country.
Highlighting the growing mental health concerns among students, he stressed the need for greater awareness among guardians and a positive outlook towards life to prevent increasing psychological distress and suicide tendencies.
Reiterating his stance, the VC said that a sound body is the foundation of a sound mind and urged the concerned to work towards making healthcare services more humane and science-based.
He also reaffirmed the university administration's commitment to stand beside teachers and students within its limited capacity.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof Dr Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, acting Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Prof Mohammad Mafruhi Sattar, Proctor Prof Dr A.K.M. Rashidul Alam and Chairman of the Department Dr Md Shakhaoat Hossain, Public Health Forum Vice-President Abhishek Rahman, General Secretary Rahimul Nahid, faculty members, among others, were present at the programme.
The day's programmes began in the morning with a marathon. Other activities included cleanliness drives, a health camp, tree plantation, a debate competition and an art competition.
