Career guidance seminar on High Court Division's original jurisdiction held at JU

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, April 5, 2026 (BSS) - A career guidance seminar 
titled "Original Jurisdiction of the High Court Division: Company, Writ and 
Admiralty Frameworks" was held at Jahangirnagar University (JU) today, aiming 
to enhance students' understanding of legal career prospects and judicial 
structures.

The seminar was organised by the Faculty of Law in collaboration with the JU 
Career Club (JUCC) at the seminar room of Zahir Raihan Auditorium around 
10:30 am, where speakers discussed various aspects, opportunities and 
challenges of the legal profession, emphasising the positive sides of 
pursuing a career in law.

JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, who chaired the 
session, said, "The foundation of law lies in morality. As the moral 
perception of society evolves, so does the trajectory of law."

VC added that a competent lawyer must possess not only clear knowledge of 
legal provisions and the constitution but also a deep understanding of 
ethical values and social norms.

Justice Sk Tahsin Ali of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of 
Bangladesh attended the seminar as the keynote speaker and presented the main 
paper. 

He stressed the importance of acquiring in-depth knowledge in company law, 
writ jurisdiction and admiralty matters, noting that practical application of 
theoretical knowledge is essential to becoming a skilled legal expert.

He also elaborated on different branches of law and the structure and 
framework of the original jurisdiction of the High Court Division.

Acting Dean of the Law Faculty Professor Dr. Md. Robiul Islam, Career Club 
Adviser and Economics Department Chairman Professor Dr. Mohammad Shafiqul 
Islam, and Assistant Professor of the Department of Accounting and 
Information Systems Mahade Hasan Dipu,Faculty Member of Rajshahi University's 
Law and Land Administration Department Mashrur Rahman, along with teachers 
and students, were present ,among others, at the programme.
