DHAKA, April 5, 2026 (BSS) - Professor Hiroaki Shiga of Yokohama National 
University of Japan paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-
Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam today at the latters office of the 
university.

Provost of Salimullah Muslim Hall and Prof of Japanese Studies at the DU Dr. 
Abdullah Al-Mamun and Chairman of the Japanese Studies Department Dr. Md. 
Jahangir Alam were present on the ocassion.

During the discussion they exchanged views on various issues of mutual 
interest, with particular emphasis on student and faculty exchange, 
development of research infrastructure, and strengthening international 
collaboration.

The DU VC reaffirmed the University of Dhaka's commitment to enhancing 
international research partnerships and expressed optimism about undertaking 
joint initiatives in the future. 

At the same time, Prof Hiroaki Shiga showed keen interest in expanding 
research and academic cooperation between the two institutions.
