DINAJPUR, April 4, 2026 (BSS) - Social Welfare Minister Abu Zafar Md. Zahid Hossain today officially inaugurated the construction of a paved road from Chararhat to Naodapara in Putimara union under Nawabganj Upazila of the district.
In his speech, he said due to the long-standing poor condition of the road, people had been suffering greatly in their daily movement.
The minister hoped once constructed, the road would improve the communication system of the area and accelerate economic activities.
Hossain said efforts are being made relentlessly to extend development activities to remote areas of the country in line with the government’s electoral commitments.
Improving rural infrastructure to enhance the living standards of people is the government’s main objective, he said.
The project is being implemented under the Dinajpur Road Development Project. Under the supervision of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), the approximately 1-kilometre-long road will be constructed at a cost of Taka 105,00,000.
Later, the minister distributed cheques amounting to Taka 36,288,000 as capitation grants for the first installment of the 2025–2026 fiscal year for 3,024 orphan children from 106 private orphanages and shelters in Sadar, Biral, Kaharole, Chirirbandar, Parbatipur, Phulbari, Birampur, and Khansama upazilas at a function at Dinajpur Shishu Academy.
Jatiya Sangsad Whip Md Akhtaruzzaman Mia, Dinajpur-2 lawmaker Md Sadique Reaz, Deputy Commissioner Md. Rafiqul Islam, Zila Parishad Administrator Advocate Mofazzal Hossain Dulal and Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Asif Ferdous were present.
The minister also visited the office of the Deputy Director of the Department of Women Affairs, Dinajpur. He spoke with the officials and staff and instructed them to perform their duties with sincerity and dedication.
