Govt denies report on officials’ foreign visit involving BTV’s digital broadcasting

DHAKA, April 3, 2026 (BSS) – The government has refuted a report published by the Amar Desh on April 3, 2026, with headline “21 officials to visit three countries to learn BTV Digital Broadcasting.,” terming it as false, fabricated and baseless.

A press release of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting today said in reality, the project cited in the report involves installing advanced broadcasting equipment at 16 Bangladesh Television (BTV) centres and sub-centres nationwide to bring all centres under digital operations.

During the preparation of the project’s Development Project Proposal (DPP), officials responsible for implementation were included in training and pre-shipment inspections to ensure transparency from procurement to operation.

Costs for these activities are already included in the DPP, with no additional expenditure from the government side involved.

Under the project terms, incomplete activities could lead to fund cancellation and no refunds are possible. Therefore, the government will incur no cost for any foreign visits.

Authorities also noted that 80% of physical work and 95% of financial allocation for the project have been completed.

The report misleadingly suggested the project was initiated during the previous Awami League government. All irrelevant projects taken by the fallen Awami League regime government were cancelled by the interim government.
