Fakhrul expects continued World Bank support for Bangladesh’s development

DHAKA, April 1, 2026 (BSS) – Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today expressed hope that the World Bank will continue its cooperation in Bangladesh’s overall development.

The minister made the remarks when a World Bank delegation, led by its World Bank Division Director for Bangladesh and Bhutan Jean Pesme, called on him at his office at the secretariat here.

During the meeting, the minister thanked the World Bank for its continuous support and hoped that such cooperation would persist in the future.

He said the World Bank is one of Bangladesh’s key development partners and noted that the country has already achieved significant success in the agriculture and food security sectors.
 
He also called for expanding the scope of cooperation to sustain this progress.

Congratulating the minister, Jean Pesme stressed the importance of expediting the implementation of ongoing development projects.
 
He also expressed optimism about enhancing support in the government’s priority sectors.

Secretary of the Local Government Division Md Shahidul Hasan and other senior officials of the ministry and relevant departments were present at the meeting.
