French envoy calls on Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam

DHAKA, March 30, 2026 (BSS) - Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam today held a courtesy meeting with French Ambassador to Bangladesh at his secretariat office here.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed in detail ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the telecommunications and satellite sectors, improve the service quality and review ongoing activities.

The minister said that the current quality of satellite communication services is satisfactory. However, as the existing agreement is due to expire; it is necessary to renew it promptly to ensure continuity of services. 

He added that enhancing domestic capacity in the telecommunications sector and ensuring strategic autonomy remain key government priorities.

The French ambassador noted that the existing cooperation between Bangladesh and France in telecommunications and satellite services has been highly positive. 

He expressed his interest in further expanding this collaboration and hoped that issues related to the renewal of the agreement would be resolved soon through mutual discussions.

It was also noted at the meeting that discussions on renewing the relevant satellite service agreement are ongoing and both the sides are expecting positive progress.

Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Abdur Naser Khan and Country Director of the French Development Agency AFD, Cynthia Mallo, were also present at the meeting.
