RAJSHAHI, March 25, 2026 (BSS)- Today, March 25, is Genocide Day. The day was observed at Rajshahi University (RU) with due respect.
At 7:00 pm, Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Faridul Islam, along with senior administrative officials, laid wreaths at the Shaheed Minar and offered prayers seeking forgiveness for the souls of those martyred in the genocide.
Later, the Shaheed Memorial Museum and other institutions also placed wreaths there.
In his speech, VC Prof Faridul Islam said that on the night of March 25, the brutal Pakistani forces launched “Operation Searchlight,” attacking unarmed and innocent Bengalis with modern weapons.
Their objective was to annihilate people indiscriminately—burning and killing youths, students, teachers, police, and people of all ages.
The Bengali nation initially resisted in scattered ways and later fought in a well-organized manner to achieve victory.
He also called for embracing the spirit of the Liberation War, saying that as future citizens of the country, they must prepare themselves and remain ever vigilant for the welfare of the nation.
Among others present were Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Mohammad Main Uddin, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Md. Farid Uddin Khan, Treasurer Professor Md. Matiar Rahman, hall provosts and department heads, as well as Proctor Professor Md. Mahbubur Rahman and Student Advisor Professor Md. Amirul Islam.
