DHAKA, March 15, 2026 (BSS) - Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken comprehensive security measures to ensure a smooth and safe Eid journey for people leaving the capital to celebrate the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr with their families.

Acting DMP Commissioner Md. Sarwar made the announcement while briefing journalists at the DMP Media Center today.

He said a large number of residents usually leave Dhaka before Eid to celebrate with their loved ones.

To ensure their travel remains smooth and secure, DMP has taken extensive preparations around the capital’s four major bus terminals, launch terminals and railway stations, he said.

According to him, both uniformed police and detective personnel will be deployed at these transport hubs to prevent passenger harassment and excessive fare collection.

Police control rooms and watch towers will also be installed at the terminals to monitor the situation, he also said.

DMP has installed around 100 CCTV cameras at three bus terminals with support from Dhaka South City Corporation and Dhaka North City Corporation, he added.

In addition to the regular traffic police deployment, around 600 extra personnel have been assigned to manage traffic and maintain discipline on the roads, he stated.

Regular mobile courts are already operating with the help of the traffic department to prevent illegal vehicles from operating on the roads.

Nine additional mobile courts, supervised by judicial and executive magistrates, will operate at bus and launch terminals to prevent overcharging of fares, ticket black marketing and passenger harassment.

To reduce traffic congestion during the Eid rush, trucks, covered vans and lorries will be restricted from operating on highways from March 17 to March 23.

However, vehicles carrying essential goods such as food items, medicines, fertilizers, fuel, perishable and export products will remain exempt from the restriction.

From March 16, commuters have been requested to avoid several busy routes in Dhaka except for urgent travel.

These include the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway (Kuril to Abdullahpur), Dhaka-Chattogram Highway (Gulistan to Signboard), Dhaka-Aricha Highway (Arang Crossing to Aminbazar), Dhaka-Keraniganj Highway (Phulbaria to Tantibazar to Babubazar Bridge), Dhaka-Mawa Highway (Gulistan to Buriganga Bridge), Mohammadpur Basila Crossing to Basila Bridge Road, Abdullahpur to Dhour Bridge Road and Fulbaria to Sadarghat Launch Terminal Road.

Separate coordination meetings have also been held with transport owners and workers at the four bus terminals to ensure proper implementation of these instructions.

The Acting Commissioner also urged passengers to remain cautious during travel.

He advised travelers not to take unnecessary risks, avoid accepting food from strangers and keep cash and valuables under personal supervision.

Additional traffic police members will also be deployed to keep roads entering and leaving the capital free of congestion, he also said.

He further requested residents to refrain from motor racing in the comparatively empty city during the Eid holidays.

Mobile courts will be operated in Purbachal Expressway, Banani-Abdullahpur Road and Gulshan areas to prevent illegal racing and speed limit violations.

Before leaving Dhaka for Eid, residents were advised to ensure proper security of their homes by installing and keeping CCTV cameras active, maintaining sufficient lighting around houses and contacting the nearest police station or the national emergency service 999 in case of any need.

The briefing was attended by Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime and Operations) SN Md. Nazrul Islam, Additional Commissioner (DB) Md. Shafiqul Islam, Additional Commissioner (CTTC) Md. Masud Karim, and Joint Commissioner of Police (Operations) of DMP, Mohammad Shahidullah, among other officials.
