DHAKA, March 14, 2026 (BSS) - Political adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas will be taken to Singapore tomorrow for advanced medical treatment.

Mirza Abbas's personal secretary, Mizanur Rahman Sohel, told BSS that he will be flown to Singapore by an air ambulance at 11:30am tomorrow.

His wife Afroza Abbas, also president of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal and his eldest son Mirza Yasir Abbas will accompany him on the trip.

Mirza Abbas underwent brain surgery on Friday while receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital Dhaka in the capital. Following the operation, he has been kept under 72-hour intensive observation by doctors of the medical board.

According to BNP Health Affairs Secretary Rafiqul Islam, a CT scan of Mirza Abbas's brain was conducted on Saturday morning and the report showed positive results.

"A CT scan of Mirza Abbas was done this morning. The report is good. Doctors of the medical board are monitoring him round the clock, and he remains under close observation," Dr. Rafiq said.

Last Thursday, Mirza Abbas suddenly lost consciousness while drinking water during iftar. As his condition worsened, he was rushed to Evercare Hospital later that night. A CT scan conducted afterward indicated complications in his brain.

Following the report, a virtual medical board was quickly convened. After reviewing his condition, the doctors decided to perform surgery.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been regularly inquiring about the health condition of the senior BNP leader. He also visited Evercare Hospital yesterday afternoon.

Several national leaders visited the hospital to check on Mirza Abbas's condition, including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman.
