DHAKA, Mar 13, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is closely monitoring the health condition of ailing BNP Standing Committee Member and PM’s political adviser Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed, who is currently undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the city.
Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain said this while talking to journalists today regarding the health condition of Mirza Abbas.
“Mirza Abbas has been kept under intensive observation at the hospital’s Neuro Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The Prime Minister is taking constant updates on Mirza Abbas’s physical condition,” Dr Zahid said.
Seeking duwa (prayer) from everyone for swift recovery of Mirza Abbas, he said a medical board consisting of specialist physicians has already been formed while senior neurologists of the country were included in the board.
The medical board includes prominent specialists Professor Ali Uzzaman, Professor Sheikh Abdul Qader, Professor Zillur Rahman, Professor Din Mohammad, Professor Sayed Ahmed and Professor Zafar Iqbal, the minister said, adding, he, himself, joins the board meeting online.
Dr Zahid said that the board had convened a meeting a short while earlier to assess Mirza Abbas’s condition, adding, all arrangements have been made to take Mirza Abbas to Singapore.
He said after communicating with neuro specialists of the National University Hospital in Singapore, procedure has been completed for admission there.
An air ambulance has also been arranged for the possible transfer, but the final decision will depend on the recommendation of the medical board, he added.
Mirza Abbas fell ill suddenly on Wednesday while drinking water during iftar and lost consciousness. As his condition did not improve, he was admitted to Evercare Hospital late that night.
Earlier on Thursday night, Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Social Welfare Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain and BNP Standing Committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan went to the hospital to see Mirza Abbas.
During their visits, they spoke to the doctors of the medical board regarding his health condition.
BNP Media Cell Member Shairul Kabir Khan said that Mirza Abbas’s wife Afroza Abbas requested the country’s people to pray for her husband’s speedy recovery.
