DHAKA, Mar 8, 2026 (BSS) - The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has directed the gradual implementation of ‘Scientific lifestyle development and mental health services programme’ in all schools and colleges across the country to ensure students’ physical and mental well-being.

The directive was issued today in an order signed by DSHE Director (Secondary) Prof Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel.

According to the Ministry of Education, the decision was taken by DSHE following a memorandum issued on February 9.

The order said the programme will be conducted based on a scientific lifestyle manual prepared by the non-government organization Quantum Foundation.

Under the directive, in accordance with a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between DSHE and Quantum Foundation, a one-day free training programme will be arranged for teachers and students in all government and non-government educational institutions under DSHE.

Heads of institutions will determine the schedule of the training at their respective venues in consultation with registered trainers of Quantum Foundation.

The directive also said that a ‘Monitoring Pool’ must be formed in each educational institution to regularly oversee the daily practice activities following the training. The monitoring pool will operate in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the training manual.

Members of Bangladesh Scouts at the school level and Rover Scouts at the college level will assist the programme as volunteers.

It also said that educational institutions may include guardians in the training programme, if necessary, to raise awareness about the prevention of non-communicable diseases and protection of mental health.

The institutions will also arrange the training regularly every year for newly admitted students.

According to the directive, relevant regional, district and upazila education officers will provide direct support and coordination in implementing the programme.

Institutions have also been advised to contact the central coordinator of Quantum Foundation for technical and training-related assistance if necessary.
