Japan premier greets PM Tarique Rahman

DHAKA, Feb 17, 2026 (BSS) - Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi today 
congratulated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on assuming office, expressing 
support for Bangladesh's democratic progress and reaffirming Tokyo's 
commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties under the existing 
Strategic Partnership.

In a congratulatory letter sent here today, Prime Minister Takaichi extended 
her warm congratulations to the Premier Rahman on his assumption of office as 
Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

She welcomed the continued promotion of democratic efforts in Bangladesh and 
conveyed Japan's readiness to work closely with the new leadership in Dhaka.

Prime Minister Takaichi expressed her hope to further deepen and expand 
bilateral relations based on the longstanding "Strategic Partnership" between 
Japan and Bangladesh.

Japan remains one of Bangladesh's key development partners, with cooperation 
spanning infrastructure development, economic growth, trade, investment and 
people-to-people exchanges.
