JHENAIDAH, Feb 13, 2026 (BSS) – Former Attorney General Advocate Md. Asaduzzaman, who won a landslide victory from Jhenaidah-1constituency with BNP ticket, today presented a bouquet in a gesture of goodwill to his rival contestant ASM Matiur Rahman.

Md. Asaduzzaman contested the election with the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol. His opponent was Jamaat-e-Islami candidate ASM Matiur Rahman.

The victorious candidate visited the home of the defeated Jamaat candidate ASM Matiur Rahman here this morning. The courtesy meeting took place at Nadpara village under Sarutia union of Shailkupa Upazila. Leaders and activists from both BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami were present at that time and exchanged greetings.

In a rare gesture, Asaduzzaman placed a victory garland around his rival’s neck. In the past, voters in Jhenaidah-1 had witnessed post-election tensions, including attacks and vandalism following wins and losses. This time Asaduzzaman set a different example.

Addressing his supporters and local residents, the former attorney general said, “Victory and defeat are part of elections. But our bond of brotherhood must remain intact. Let unity-not division be the foundation of a new Bangladesh. The July movement and the sacrifices of the youths must not go in vain. Together, we will move forward to build the country.”

According to locals, such an initiative will encourage a positive political culture. This message of strengthening democratic practice through mutual respect and personal goodwill is significant not only for Jhenaidah but for the entire country.

While election results can be measured in numbers, the people of Jhenaidah-1 will remember this act of humanity. Even in the harsh reality of politics, the courtyard of a home in Nadpara village stood as a silent witness to a flower garland symbolizing harmony and brotherhood.

Notably, BNP candidate and former Attorney General Advocate Asaduzzaman won the Jhenaidah-1 (Shailkupa) seat by a large margin. He was elected as a Member of Parliament with 173,381 votes. His nearest rival, Jamaat candidate Abu Saleh Md. Matiur Rahman, who contested with the ‘Scales’ symbol, bagged 57,055 votes. Asaduzzaman won by a margin of more than 116,000 votes.
