DHAKA, Feb 12, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman today said that if his party gets the opportunity to form the government, it will work together with all political parties and maintain friendly relations with all countries, including neighbouring states.

"Jamaat would seek cooperation from all parties in forming and running the government if elected. No country can move forward in isolation. We will work with all important countries of the world, including our neighbours, in a spirit of friendship and mutual respect," he told a press briefing at the chief election office of Dhaka-15 constituency this evening.

Referring to the ongoing counting process, the Jamaat chief said preliminary results indicated that candidates of the 11-party alliance were leading in many constituencies. However, he urged patience, saying it was too early to draw final conclusions.

"Major irregularities were not reported and voting ended without serious trouble. We are satisfied overall. In an election, one will win and others must accept the verdict," he added.

Highlighting the participation of expatriate voters, Dr. Rahman welcomed the inclusion of probashi Bangladeshis in the electoral process, though their number was still limited. He said ensuring voting rights for expatriates was an important step toward securing their broader rights and recognition.

He acknowledged the contributions of expatriates to the national economy and policy discussions, noting their role in drafting the party's manifesto and policy papers. He also paid tribute to expatriates who, he said, had supported July mass uprising.

The Jamaat Ameer called for responsible and independent media, saying constructive criticism would help any future government correct its mistakes. "Positive achievements should be highlighted, and mistakes should be pointed out fairly," he said.

He also expressed gratitude to voters for participating peacefully despite concerns and apprehensions ahead of the polls.

Dr. Rahman said if elected, he would work with all candidates in his constituency, including his rivals, to ensure development and welfare. "The victory of one should be considered a collective victory," he added.
