DHAKA, Feb 10, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said that the 11-party alliance is fully prepared to extend every possible cooperation to ensure a free, fair and transparent election.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman expressed optimism that a resounding victory in the upcoming referendum would pave the way for realizing the aspirations of the July uprising, ending past persecution, and ensuring justice for all martyrs and revolutionaries.
He was briefing journalists after a meeting of top leaders of the alliance at the Jamaat central office in Mogbazar this evening.
Jamaat Chief said, "Since the beginning of our nationwide campaign, we have moved forward with the motivation of a 'Yes' vote in the referendum. Insha'Allah, if 'Yes' wins by a wide margin, Bangladesh will emerge victorious."
"This will open the path to implementing the goals of the July mass uprising, ending past oppression, and delivering rightful justice to all, from Abrar Fahad to revolutionary Sharif Osman Hadi, as well as the families of all 1,400 martyrs to whom we pay our deepest respects," he said.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman emphasized that the alliance's position has always been clear: supporting reform and change. He noted that over the past 54 years, corruption and misgovernance have prevented the nation from progressing, and the alliance is committed to clear anti-corruption measures, promoting good governance, and ensuring justice across society.
He highlighted the role of the youth, saying, "Our young people want to build the country with their own hands. They do not seek handouts or charity, but rather wish to become proud partners in building Bangladesh."
"Our position is clear - not handouts, but opportunities based on merit. We are preparing to entrust the nation's future into their hands," he said.
Dr. Rahman also pointed to the shortcomings of the last four elections, noting that the people could not exercise their democratic will since 2008. "This time, however, there is widespread enthusiasm and excitement among the people. In villages, citizens are returning in groups, ready to cast their votes as if celebrating Eid, hoping to see a government of their choice."
"We believe that if the people's will be reflected, Bangladesh will move toward a new political era, fulfilling the long-cherished aspirations of a renewed nation," he said.
Jamaat Chief further warned against misinformation and urged voters to remain vigilant. "Rumors may spread, but until a clear statement comes from the 11-party alliance, do not pay attention to such misleading claims. Those afraid of defeat may attempt falsehoods to instill fear, but Insha'Allah, you will exercise your voting rights firmly and responsibly."
"Anyone attempting shortcuts will not succeed. We call on all election commission officials, security personnel, and administrators to perform their duties neutrally and honestly. Only then will they earn the people's respect and appreciation," he said.
Dr. Shafiqur underlined that the forthcoming government will belong to the people, not any party, group, or family. "It will be a government representing farmers, workers, laborers, and all social classes; women and men; children and the elderly. This will be a government of the people, Insha'Allah, reflecting their victory," he said.
Earlier in the meeting, the 11-party alliance leaders discussed the national parliamentary elections and referendum scheduled for February 12.
National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque, Khelafat Majlis Joint Secretary General Professor Abdul Jalil, Liberal Democratic Party Advisory Council member Principal Mahbubur Rahman, Bangladesh Labour Party Chairman Dr. Mostafizur Rahman Iran, National Democratic Party Vice-President and Spokesperson Engineer Rashed Pradhan, Bangladesh Development Party Vice-Chairman Engineer Anwar Hossain, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Senior Nayeeb-e-Ameer Maulana Yusuf Ashraf, Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim and NCP Spokesperson and Election Steering Committee Chairman Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, among others, were present at the briefing.
