DHAKA, Feb 10, 2026 (BSS) - Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Bangladesh Baharul Alam today assured full security to the Commonwealth Observer Group (COG) during the forthcoming 13th national election slated for Feb 12.
The assurance was given to the COG when a delegation led by its head Nana Addo Akufo-Addo paid a courtesy call on the police chief at the Police Headquarters here today.
During the meeting, both sides discussed various issues related to election security and overall law and order during the upcoming National Assembly elections.
The head of the Commonwealth Observer Group informed that 25 Commonwealth observers would be deployed to monitor the elections and sought assurances regarding their safety throughout the election period.
In response, the IGP outlined comprehensive security preparations, highlighting risk-based security planning, enhanced cyber monitoring, and the use of modern technology to maintain electoral law and order.
He assured that all necessary measures have been put in place in accordance with the directives of the Election Commission and the Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure the safety of foreign observers and journalists.
Senior officials of the Bangladesh Police were also present during the meeting.
