JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Feb 10, 2026 (BSS) - Dr Md Fuad Hossain, Associate Professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Gono Bishwabidyalay, has been awarded the prestigious UGC Chairman's Award for his outstanding performance in a professional development training programme for university teachers.
The four-month-long training was organised under the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) Project, where Dr Hossain also received a Merit Award for his academic excellence, said a press release signed by Gono Bishwabidyalay Assistant Registrar (Public Relations) Sharmin Sultana on Monday night.
A total of 60 teachers from 19 public and 16 private universities across the country participated in the programme - the first of its kind in Bangladesh's higher education history. The training was held at the Bangladesh Open University campus.
The award-giving ceremony took place on February 5, attended by University Grants Commission (UGC) member and Rector (in-charge) of the University Teachers Training Academy Professor Dr Tanzim Uddin Khan, Bangladesh Open University VC Prof Dr Obaidul Islam, HEAT Project Director Prof Dr Asaduzzaman, senior UGC officials and representatives from different universities.
The UGC Chairman's Award is the highest honour of the training programme and is conferred on only one participant in each batch, while the Merit Award is given to three participants per batch.
Congratulating Dr Fuad, Gono Bishwabidyalay VC Prof Dr Md Abul Hossain said the achievement is a matter of pride for the university. He expressed hope that the success would inspire the university's teachers to further strengthen research-oriented and student-centred higher education.
Dr Fuad completed his B.Sc and M.Sc Degree from Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Jahangirnagar University.
