DHAKA, Feb 7, 2026 (BSS) - Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder today said the Election Commission (EC) has suspended the observer accreditation of local organization Peoples Advancement Social Association (PASA).

He came up with the development at a press briefing held in front of the State Guest House Jamuna following a high-level meeting on election preparedness, chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam also addressed the briefing, while Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammad was present.

Majumder said the EC took the decision after a preliminary investigation into PASA, adding that further inquiry is currently underway. He noted, however, that no evidence of the organization's political affiliation has been found so far.

About foreign election observers, Shafiqul Alam said around 400 international observers are expected to monitor the upcoming polls. He also said approximately 120 foreign journalists are likely to cover the election.
