RAJSHAHI, Feb 7, 2026 (BSS)- An “Incubation Hub” has been launched for the first time at Rajshahi University (RU) to promote industry-oriented education and research at the university, foster entrepreneurship, increase domestic production, and build the country as self-reliant.

The incubation hub has been established through the initiative of the Molecular Biology and Protein Science Laboratory (MBPSL) of the university’s Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.

RU sources said the inauguration ceremony was held this afternoon at the laboratory’s own premises.

The hub was formally inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Saleh Hasan Naqib and Chief Researcher of the MBPSL Incubation Hub, Professor Dr. Md. Abu Reza.

Speaking at the event, Prof Abu Reza said that the initiative was taken to orient research conducted at higher educational institutions toward industry.

Their goal is to produce and market within the country products that are currently not manufactured domestically.

Through this initiative, students will gain hands-on training as well as practical knowledge about how to build and run a company.
He further noted that nearly all biotechnology products used in hundreds of laboratories across Bangladesh are imported from abroad, even though these products can be manufactured locally.

Prof Abu Reza also said plans have already been taken to develop eight products.
Initially, the research and development of these products will be carried out within the incubation hub, and once companies provide funding, the products will be commercialized and brought to market.
