TANGAIL, Jan 31, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman today said certain quarters are conspiring to disrupt the voting process and urging voters to remain vigilant.
"Some quarters are still trying to find ways to obstruct voting in various manners," he said.
"Their people are approaching voters, especially women, trying to collect NID numbers and bKash details in different ways and misleading them. Everyone must stay alert."
Tarique Rahman made the remarks while addressing an election rally as the chief guest at the Darun Charjhana Bypass area beside the Tangail highway this afternoon.
From the rally stage, he formally introduced BNP candidates Swapan Fakir, Abdus Salam Pintu, Obaidur Haque Nasir, Lutfor Rahman Matin, Sultan Salauddin Tuku, Rabiul Alam Lablu, Abul Kalam Azad Siddiqui and Ahmed Azam Khan. He handed them the party's election symbol, the 'Sheaf of Paddy' (Dhaner Shish) and called on the people of Tangail to ensure their victory.
Urging voters to be proactive on polling day, the BNP Chairman said, "Preparations must be taken from the day before so that everyone can go to the polling centers early in the morning. This will prevent anyone from casting fake votes in your name. No one should be able to steal your vote."
Referring to local development demands, Tarique Rahman said BNP candidates had placed various proposals before the people. "On February 12, vote for the Sheaf of Paddy. InshaAllah, if we form the government with your votes, we will begin implementing development projects in phases to meet the demands of your areas," he said.
Highlighting Tangail's traditional saree industry, he said the district produces sarees of diverse colors and designs. "With planned initiatives, these sarees can be exported abroad just like Bangladesh's garments," he added.
He also spoke about plans to construct a barrage on the Jamuna River in Tangail, establish mills, set up pineapple juice processing factories, and further develop the jute industry and other sectors. "If we work together and plan together, Insha Allah, we will be able to bring the desired change not only to Tangail but to the whole of Bangladesh," he said.
The rally was presided over by Tangail District BNP President Hasanuzzaman Shahin and conducted by former Acting General Secretary Mahmudul Haque Sabu. Central BNP leaders Syedul Alam Babul, Benjir Ahmed Titu, Sayeed Sohrab, Shamsuzzaman Suraj, along with BNP candidates from Tangail's eight constituencies, also spoke at the rally.
Earlier in the afternoon, a massive crowd gathered at the rally venue as BNP leaders and activists from different upazilas of the district arrived in processions carrying banners and festoons. The venue overflowed with people, creating a festive atmosphere filled with slogans, national flags, BNP flags and the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol.
Due to the large turnout, traffic movement on the adjacent Dhaka-Tangail highway was partially disrupted. People of all ages, including youths, elderly men and women, were seen gathering in large numbers, turning the Darun area into a vast sea of people.
As part of his two-day campaign in the northern region, Tarique Rahman addressed four rallies in Rajshahi, Naogaon, Bogura and Rangpur. On the final day, after concluding rallies in Sirajganj and Tangail, he left for Dhaka at around 6:30 pm.
