DHAKA, Jan 31, 2026 (BSS) - The major development projects of Dhaka University (DU), with an estimated cost of TK 2841 crore along with several other development projects, have been inaugurated.
The inauguration ceremony was held today at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium of the university, where DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan inaugurated these projects as chief guest.
The projects include the construction of a 21-storey academic building for the Faculties of Earth and Environmental Sciences and Engineering and Technology, residential buildings for third-class employees, a 15-storey IT hub building, new buildings for nine halls (four for male students and five for female students), six academic buildings, a central mosque, the DUCSU building, a medical center, an administrative building, playground development along with construction of a gymnasium, renovation and beautification of water bodies, development of the road network, and construction of public toilets.
At the event, the Vice-Chancellor briefed journalists on 41 remarkable activities and achievements of the university administration from August 2024 to January 2026.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha, Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed, deans of all faculties, provosts of all halls, and leaders of DUCSU and hall unions were present. DU Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury presided over it.
Acting Director of the Planning and Development Office Mohammed Zabed Alam Mrida presented an overview of the project activities while Acting Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed conducted the event.
