DHAKA, Jan 31, 2026 (BSS) - Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb today emphasized the need for policy support to reduce the country's dependency on imported digital devices.
"Real success will come when the country moves towards local production by reducing import dependency on various digital devices," he said.
Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb made the remarks as the chief guest while addressing the closing ceremony of the three-day Digital Device and Innovation Expo-2026 at Hotel InterContinental here.
The expo was jointly organised by the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division, Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) and Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS).
Taiyeb said initiatives have already been taken in principle to reduce duties in the battery industry and mobile phone manufacturing sector, adding that the government and business community must work together to facilitate computer production in the country.
Calling upon the business community, the CA's Special Assistant said the government would be able to take more resilient policy decisions if entrepreneurs can demonstrate how policy support contributes to increasing government revenue.
Highlighting the huge potential of the local device market, he said smartphone penetration in the country currently stands at 45 percent, while laptop usage is 10 percent and tablet usage only 2-5 percent, indicating significant scope for further market expansion, particularly among the youth.
