NOAKHALI, Jan 30, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur
Rahman has called for a corruption-free and good governance system in the
country, stressing the need for a fair and just society.
"We want a Bangladesh free from corruption and misrule. We will vote for
'Yes,' and 'Yes' means freedom," he told an electoral rally at Noakhali Zilla
School ground in Noakhali, where he reaffirmed the Jamaat's commitment to
ending the era of corruption and authoritarianism in Bangladesh.
Dr Rahman also assured the people of Noakhali that their demands would be
addressed, outlining specific development initiatives for the region,
including the creation of Noakhali Division, upgrading the city of Noakhali
to a City Corporation, and measures to address river erosion in Hatia,
Kompaniganj, and Subarnachar.
"We will take effective steps to prevent riverbank erosion in Feni, build a
closure dam on the Feni River, construct a railway line from Sunapur to Hatia
Chairman Ghat, and elevate Subarnachar to a municipality," he said.
Jamaat Ameer emphasized that the coalition of 11 parties would work together
to bring about a change for the betterment of the people. "We have added ten
more symbols alongside the symbol of justice, 'Daripalla' (Scale), and
wherever it is placed, we will consider it as part of 'Justice'. Let us work
together for the success of our alliance", he said.
Dr. Rahman highlighted the importance of ensuring fair pay for government
employees, so they can serve the people honestly. "Many government employees
do not live righteous lives because they do not receive adequate salaries,"
he said. "We will ask the Pay Commission to provide proper recommendations so
that they do not resort to corrupt practices. For those who do, we will take
strict action," he added.
Jamaat Chief further criticized the corrupt practices prevalent in the
country, stressing that no one should be allowed to engage in illegal
activities, such as extortion. "Those who engage in such practices must
understand that they will not be able to feed their children on illicit
gains. Eventually, these children will rise against them," he added.
Reflecting on the legacy of Noakhali, Dr Rahman praised the region's scholars
and educators for spreading religious knowledge across the country. He
described Noakhali's people as resilient and brave, saying, "Noakhali has
produced people who do not fear challenges; they know how to fight for what
is right," he said.
He also spoke about the painful history of Jamaat-e-Islami, recalling how the
party's offices were shut down, and its leaders' facing persecution. "We were
deprived of our symbol, and our leaders' homes were bulldozed, but we did not
retaliate with violence. Our only crime was our faith in Allah, and we did
not indulge in corruption or seize others' property," he said, adding, "We
will continue to uphold these values."
Dr Rahman emphasized the Jamaat's commitment to the security and well-being
of the people, highlighting the party's efforts in the past to protect public
institutions and important landmarks. "Before coming to power, we began
protecting government institutions and key facilities because we knew that,
once in power, the people would be even more vulnerable to those who failed
to protect them," he said.
Dr Rahman also spoke out in defense of the people who have faced persecution
for supporting Jamaat's cause, such as the mother who was tortured for voting
for the Jamaat symbol. "In her honor, we will make Subarnachar a
municipality," he pledged.
Reaffirming his commitment to Noakhali's development, Dr. Rahman promised to
fulfill all of the region's demands and ensure that no injustice would be
done to the people. "We will not allow any unfair treatment. We will work
together to make Noakhali and Bangladesh a better place," he said.
The rally was chaired by Noakhali District Ameer Ishaq Khan, with speeches
from Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum and other
leaders from the 11-party electoral alliance.
