JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Jan 23, 2025 (BSS) - Students and faculty members of Jahangirnagar University (JU) from Hindu community celebrated Saraswati Puja with devotion and festivity today, filling the campus with colours, joy and spiritual fervour.
The day-long celebration began around 9:00 am with the installation of the Goddess's idol and Bani Archana at the university's central temple, conducted by the chief priest.
Following the rituals, puja ceremonies were organised at various residential halls, faculties and departments, where students and staff offered pushpanjali seeking blessings for wisdom and learning. Prasad was later distributed among the participants.
Gautam Kumar Chowdhury, a student of JU's 50th batch and president of the Central Puja Celebration Committee, said the festival was observed in 13 different locations across the campus, including the central temple, halls, faculties and departments.
"With everyone's cooperation, this year's Saraswati Puja was completed beautifully, in a disciplined and secure manner," he added, noting that evening arati and cultural programmes were also held.
Debanjana Deb, a student of the English Department from the 51st batch, said that, as in previous years, the puja was celebrated with great enthusiasm on Basant Panchami.
"This year, for the first time, Fazilatunnesa and Taraman Bibi Halls organised the festival in amid exuberance, keeping the campus vibrant throughout the day," she said, expressing hope that the student-led celebration would continue to grow.
Saraswati Puja is annually observed at JU on Shukla Panchami, marking one of the major religious festivals of the Hindu community.
