Touhid stresses preserving ancient religious, historical establishments

BARGUNA, Jan 21, 2026 (BSS) - Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain has said the government is sincere about preserving the country’s ancient historical and religious establishments during a visit to heritage sites in Barguna.

“I am truly impressed by the ancient architectural style and design of the Bibichini Shahi Mosque. Preserving such monuments of our history and heritage is extremely important,” he said while visiting the historic Bibichini Shahi Mosque at Betagi in the district on Tuesday.

The foreign adviser toured the mosque, a notable historical and architectural heritage site of the district, observing its structure and various sections.

He said the government would provide all-out cooperation for necessary renovation and development of the Bibichini Shahi Mosque, stressing the need for collective efforts by the local administration and people from all walks of life to protect such heritage sites.

Later, he also visited the Catholic church at the Christian neighbourhood of Deshantarakathi village in the same union.

Barguna Deputy Commissioner Taslima Akter, Superintendent of Police Md. Qudrat-e-Khuda and Betagi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Saddam Hossain were present, among others,  during the visit.

Local residents said the nearly 350-year-old Bibichini Shahi Mosque is not only a place of worship but also a significant symbol of Barguna’s history and heritage.

The mosque is located in Bibichini Union, about 10 kilometres from the upazila headquarters.
