DHAKA, Jan 18, 2026 (BSS) - Adviser to the ministries of Science and Technology and Finance Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed has said fuel loading for the Unit-1 of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) is expected to be completed by the end of the current month (February).
He made the remarks while visiting the RNPP construction site in Ishwardi, Pabna last Friday.
During the visit, he inspected the overall progress of the project and held discussions with officials, engineers, and workers involved in its implementation.
The adviser praised their relentless efforts and dedication in bringing the country’s first nuclear power plant closer to completion.
Expressing optimism, Ahmed said the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant would play a groundbreaking role in Bangladesh’s power sector.
He noted that the project would significantly contribute to meeting the country’s growing electricity demand, ensuring energy security, and achieving sustainable development goals.
The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is one of the government’s largest mega projects and is now in its final stage of construction, being implemented in compliance with all international safety norms and regulations.
Engineers from Russia’s state-owned nuclear energy corporation Rosatom, who are involved in the project, stated that fuel loading for Unit-1 is on track to complete by the end of February 2026.
According to project officials, around 350 megawatts of electricity from Unit-1 are expected to be supplied to the national grid by the end of March 2026.
Subsequently, electricity generation will be increased in phases, with Unit-1 expected to produce about 1,150 megawatts out of its total capacity of 1,200 megawatts.
Cabinet Secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid, Finance Division Secretary Dr. Md Khairuzzaman Mozumder and Economic Relations Division Secretary Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky, among others, were present during the visit.
